Why I Built BMITool.org

I built this site because I was tired of seeing patients come to my clinic with misinformation from oversimplified online calculators. A BMI of 24.2 with a "normal" label while fasting glucose is 118. A parent panicking because an adult BMI calculator called their 8-year-old "obese." An Asian patient with a BMI of 23.4 being told they're "fine" while their metabolic panel says otherwise.

These calculators are free because health information should be accessible. They're clinical-grade because patients deserve accuracy. And they're transparent about limitations because no single number defines your health.

Clinical Philosophy

I don't believe in "ideal weight." I believe in metabolic health. I don't celebrate rapid weight loss. I emphasize sustainable behavior change. I don't use BMI as a diagnostic. I use it as one screening tool among many.

My approach combines population-level data with individual context: ethnicity, age, sex, body composition, family history, and metabolic markers. The calculators on this site reflect that approach. They're not perfect — no calculator is. But they're closer to clinical reality than anything you'll find on WebMD.

About This Site

BMITool.org is an independent educational resource. It is not affiliated with Johns Hopkins, Harvard, or the NIH. All calculators run entirely in your browser — your health data is never sent to our servers.

The site is supported by advertising and affiliate partnerships. Editorial content is independent of commercial relationships. I only recommend products or services that I believe will be genuinely helpful to readers.
