Privacy Policy

Your health data belongs to you. We don't want it, we don't collect it, and we can't share what we don't have.

Data Collection

BMITool.org does not collect personal health data. All calculations — including height, weight, age, BMI results, and trend history — happen entirely within your web browser using JavaScript. Your data is never transmitted to our servers, never stored in our databases, and never shared with third parties.

The only data we collect is standard web server logs, which may include:

  • IP address (anonymized where possible)
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system
  • Referring page
  • Date and time of access
  • Pages visited

These logs are used for website analytics, security monitoring, and troubleshooting. They do not contain any health information.

Local Storage

Some calculators on this site offer an optional "Save my inputs" or "Track my trends" feature. When enabled, this data is stored using your browser's localStorage API — a client-side storage mechanism that keeps data on your device only.

LocalStorage data:

  • Never leaves your device
  • Never syncs to our servers
  • Can be cleared at any time through your browser settings
  • Is deleted if you clear browser data or uninstall your browser

You are in complete control of this data. We cannot access it, recover it, or delete it remotely.

Cookies

BMITool.org uses minimal cookies for essential functionality:

  • Session cookies: To maintain your preferences (e.g., unit selection)
  • Analytics cookies: To understand how visitors use the site (Google Analytics, anonymized)
  • Advertising cookies: If you have consented to personalized advertising

You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Blocking cookies will not affect calculator functionality.

Third-Party Services

We may use the following third-party services:

  • Google Analytics: For aggregated, anonymized traffic analysis. You can opt out using Google's opt-out browser add-on.
  • Google AdSense / Affiliate Partners: For advertising. These services may use cookies to serve relevant ads. See our Disclosure page for details.
  • Content Delivery Networks (CDN): For fast delivery of static assets. No personal data is shared.

These third parties have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: Request copies of any personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your data (note: we don't store health data)
  • Objection: Object to processing of your data for marketing purposes
  • Portability: Request transfer of your data to another service

To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@bmitool.org.

Data Security

This site is served over HTTPS (TLS encryption). However, because we do not collect health data, there is no health data to secure. Your localStorage data is as secure as your device — protect it with device passwords, encryption, and regular software updates.

Children's Privacy

BMITool.org does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The pediatric BMI calculator is designed for parents and healthcare providers to use on behalf of children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
